The next Last Epoch patch is out, and while it has a brand new event that is quite exciting to see, it also comes with some somber news. The action RPG reported that in its new update, they will unfortunately no longer build a native Linux client for the game, recommending players to just use Proton for a much better experience than what they could provide.

This was mentioned in the patch notes, where they also mention that Steam Deck players can automatically launch the game with the layer when booting the game up. While we can still play it, which is nice, it is a bit unfortunate that the native Linux version of the game will no longer exist.

But the update was still a nice one too. It did fix a gamepad issue where the forge wouldn't show a left trigger icon, UI scaling, and the team fixed a few memory leaks where assets were being held onto by static references. This ended up saving around 500MB of RAM+VRAM, and with a limited RAM device like the Steam Deck, this is much appreciated. The new update also adds in the Imperial Uprising event, which introduces Loyalist Undead, Loot Lizards, a new Stash Tab Priority system, Bazaar improvements, and much more.

You can check out the full changelog for this update on their forum post on the Last Epoch website.

LastEpoch 35

Last Epoch is available for $34.99 and is rated Steam Deck Playable due to small in-game text and showing incorrect controller icons. We also reviewed the game, and while it is playable, it may slow down a bit in end-game content.
