Alkimia Interactive and THQ Nordic are hard at work on remaking the original Gothic game, and while they're teasing something for the Steam Next Fest which begins on February 24th, they also have a behind-the-scenes look at how they're working to bring the remake to life.
The video features insights from the game's Director, Music Composer / Sound Designer, the studio's Art Director, and many more.
You can check it out down below:
This chapter of the Behind The Scenes look focuses on how the developers are trying to stay true to the original Gothic vision, while also enhancing the game to a standard that modern audiences will expect. You'll be able to see locations that you're familiar with if you had played the original game, enhanced with extra detail.
In case you aren't familiar at all with Gothic, the game is an RPG classic from 2001, set in the Kingdom of Myrtana, where the King has imprisoned countless people in the mines to gather resources for a war, however, the mines quickly fall into an anarchist state, and the player now controls one of the prisoners in the mines in this dynamic world with a branching story.

The Gothic 1 Remake doesn't have a release date on Steam yet, although the team is hinting at something for the Steam Next Fest, so it's possible a demo of some kind may release at that point. The game does have full controller support, but we don't have a good idea of system requirements yet, so it's hard to tell how it may run on the Steam Deck.
