I have a lot of fond memories of PC gaming when I was younger, and while I know it is a little controversial, I liked the Games for Windows Live (GFWL) system. At the time, I was a big Xbox gamer, and the achievements system connected to my Xbox 360 account, so it felt like I had something akin to cross progression. Unfortunately, the service didn't last, and the games that had it were almost deemed completely unplayable because of how interwoven it was and how it handled online multiplayer. However, some developers have started removing the service from their games, and Capcom seems to have done so with some of their older titles that had it.
Spotted by Reddit user ThemosttrustedFries and Wario64 on Twitter/X, four of Capcom's older titles had GFWL removed from it, making them playable even though the service had ended. Lost Planet 1, Lost Planet 2, Street Fighter X Tekken, and Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City all had updates recorded on SteamDB around 18-19 hours ago (at the time of writing) that removed it.

To see how well they worked, I went ahead and tested all four games on the Steam Deck, and I was able to check out all of them. Lost Planet 1 and 2 and Operation Raccoon City all seem to have GFWL completely stripped from them, making it significantly easier to play them. Street Fighter X Tekken did have some trouble at first, getting stuck at running the install script, but after a reboot, it was able to launch with Proton GE 10-3. Sadly, this does mean all online multiplayer features are gone, but they are very playable on the Deck with no troubles. Trying to sign into LIVE pops up an error saying you aren't logged in and then puts you back at the menu.

Currently, all of these games are rated Unsupported, but with GFWL gone, I would say they should all be Verified. They all run out of the box and hit 60 FPS, though Lost Planet 2 does have a launcher that needs the touchscreen to get past. Still, this should make these older games much more playable for those who still have them.
Unfortunately, three of the four games are currently not purchasable on Steam. Lost Planet 1 is the only game that can still be purchased for $14.99, while the other three are all taken down. The other three games all have a message on their store pages about the games being deliberately taken down due to the issues surrounding GFWL, so there's some hope that they will come back now that the issue has been resolved.
Time will tell, but as someone that owns all of these games already, I am glad that they found the time to go back and fix them.
