Tactics Ogre: Reborn is a tactical RPG where your choices affect how the story is told. As Denam, you will lead your group and fight in 3D battlefields in turn-based combat. Level up and fine-tune your units with combinations of classes, equipment, skills, and magic to make them as powerful as possible. With multiple paths and endings possible, full voice acting, and tons of endgame content, Tactics Ogre: Reborn will give you hours and hours of addicting and fun gameplay.

Tactics Ogre: Reborn is a re-imagining of the remake of the original Tactics Ogre that came out in 1995. This one brings tons of improvements like the unit-by-unit leveling system, voice acting, playability improvements, world and chariot tarots, and updated graphics, this is the ultimate edition of this incredible game. But how does it play on the Steam Deck you ask?

Tactics Ogre: Reborn - Performance

It runs just as you would expect, perfect. Just starting the game without changing any options will have no issues at all. The game will run at 60 FPS with 8W - 12W battery drain. Since there is no changes for this to run just fine and run pretty well, this is an easy Best on Deck game! But, there is a way to increase battery life with no changes to stability.

There are some parts in the game where drain goes up to 12W, but by setting a TDP of 4 and a GPU Clock Speed Frequency of 1100, you can keep battery drain under 8.5W and keep a 60 FPS stable framerate. Due to the nature of the game, you could set framerate down to 40 for further savings, but those are small compared to 12W down to 8W, which adds another hour of battery life.

Once that is done, you can keep 5.5 - 6 hours of battery on a full charge. For a game like this, it feels perfect. I also didn't experience any other issues when playing the game with performance, controls, or anything else! It all just worked.

Tactics Ogre: Reborn is an amazing tactical RPG that has so much content and depth that it feels definitely worth the price. The multiple endings and paths in the story that is dependent on your choices feels well-implemented and very welcome. On the Steam Deck, you will be able to fully enjoy the experience on the go and with some tweaks, optimize the battery life even more!
