Saga of Sins is a 2D action-adventure that will take you into the minds of villagers to fight the seven deadly sins. Transform into one of four demonic creatures that you can swap to at will, each with unique abilities, and fight off the sins that are taking over. Utilize different techniques, like the Power Dash, to get more coins, which you will use to upgrade and enhance your skills, all while discovering a surprising story with twists, turns, and multiple endings. With Sinner and Innocent levels and arcade-style gameplay, this game will keep you on your toes and test you in a multitude of ways.
Saga of Sins is quite possibly one of my favorite looking games this year (so far). I love unique and stylized ways to showcase games, like Sunday Gold last year, and this game continues that with a stained glass inspired style by Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch. On top of that, the voice acting is fantastic. It really elevates the immersion into the time period and story. I also did enjoy the gameplay loop, the arcadey platforming and combat. The game is a lot of fun, and thankfully, it is one you can fully enjoy on the Steam Deck!
Seeing as the game is a 2D platformer and isn't super graphically intensive, I wasn't surprised to see how well the game runs. Without any changes, Saga of Sins runs at 60 FPS with a 7W - 9W average battery drain, giving around 4.5 - 5 hours battery. What did really surprise me is that the game has a native Linux build, which is awesome!
The game doesn't support the 1280x800 resolution and I couldn't force it, but it does have 1280x720 support. I also noticed that the game doesn't support cloud saves either, which is a little bit of a boon, but I wouldn't say this is a game I would enjoy on my desktop PC anyways. Not that it's a bad game, but the handheld format with a controller/gamepad just fits so well, I can't see myself using anything else.
Saga of Sins is a unique and awesome 2D action-adventure game with incredibly distinctive visuals and fantastic voice acting. The gameplay feels quite nice, even if I constantly die, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the game. On top of that, it runs so wonderfully on the Steam Deck without needing any changes, making this a fantastic Best on Deck game! Not only will this be a safe buy to run well on the Deck, it will also be a damn good time!
