Gungrave G.O.R.E.

Become the gun-wielding badass Grave as you plow down your enemies in this story of vengeance. In this third-person shooter, Gungrave G.O.R.E. combines eastern and western game design while becoming the ultimate killing machine with stylish combat, gory finishing moves, and unlimited ammo to demolish foes as you go through varied environments and rack up some beats and art points! Will you be able to get through this epic story of revenge and see it through to the end?

With the recent Proton Experimental update, Gungrave G.O.R.E. was finally made playable and while it does take a little configuring, it can run quite well! On max settings, the game does slog and hovers around the 20-30 fps range with regular dips and a 22W drain. This definitely isn’t playable, but it isn’t a lost cause just yet.

Gungrave has support for DLSS and FSR, with the latter being useful for making this game run much better. With a combination of FSR, medium and low settings, and a TDP limit of 9, the game can run at at 50 FPS for the most part without major issues. On the Deck, this feels really great and fluid.

Overall, Gungrave still looks quite good too, but due to FSR, stopping and looking around can look a little grainy. The game is meant for you to always be moving, and while you do, this isn’t really noticeable. I did notice some larger areas drop a little bit while roaming through, going down to 47-48 at times, but it wasn’t noticeable and went right back to 50 as soon as enemies were starting to show up.

So far, Gungrave G.O.R.E. is running quite well, especially coming from not working at all on release. As I play more of the game, I will be creating a quality build that focuses on trying to push 40 FPS without using any FSR. While I believe this is possible, playing at 50 FPS with FSR still looks great for the most part and feels much smoother. I would consider this game a safe bet to enjoy on the Steam Deck!
