Not content with just having the adoration of gamers and critics, Baldur's Gate 3 has now taken the Game Developer's Choice Award (GDCA) 2024. It also scooped the Best Narrative, Best Design, and the Audience Award!
Not to be entirely outdone, Nintendo's Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom walked away with the Best Innovation and the Best Technology awards, Venba received the Best Debut and Social Impact Awards, Alan Wake 2 won Best Visual Art, and Hi-Fi Rush won the Best Audio award.
The GDCA also gave awards to Yoko Shimomura and Fawzi Mesmar.
Shimomura received the GDCA Lifetime Achievement award for her contribution to video game music. Having composed music for video games for decades, including Guile's Theme for Street Fighter II, work on the Kingdom Hearts & Final Fantasy franchises, and much more! She's certainly created a long-lasting legacy that I'm sure we can all appreciate.
Fawzi Mesmar received the GDCA Ambassador Award for his work in promoting video games as a medium, including his recent work of writing a book on game design in Arabic, something that is not common at all. He has worked on a variety of games as a Creative Director and Designer, as well as experience as an author and mentoring.
That's all for the GDCA, congratulations to all the winners, be sure to check them out when you get a chance!
